How to grow your following...

20th June 2016

Recently I’ve had so many emails of girls and guys asking how best to grow their social media following.

It’s undeniable that the internet has become very powerful in determining how we think and what we buy into. It's now an integral part of how brands and companies advertise their products and grow a successful business, without ever stocking in a retail outlet.

I do not by any means class myself as an expert. I do however have first-hand knowledge of how to start a business, get sponsored and earn an income from social media.

These are my own personal tips on how best to get noticed and grow your following:

Find your own ‘story’...

What makes you different? There are so many amazing accounts’ out there. I try and use mine like a daily blog which transferred onto snapchat and now regular vlogging for my YouTube channel. This leads me onto my next tip...

Show your personality…

Regular followers will want to know about YOU. So continuously posting a ‘throwback’, an over ‘sexual’ image or generic ‘motivational’ quote will not be different from another page. These posts may get you ‘likes’ but that won’t necessarily turn into followers. Those on social media who have the biggest followings aren’t necessarily the most attractive or have the most incredible physiques. They are however approachable, relate-able and their followers feel like they know them as a person and often, as a friend..

Honesty is the best policy…

That doesn’t mean sharing every little detail about yourself! We do however naturally warm to those who we feel are genuine. So if you are asked to promote something or recommend a product or brand to your followers, consider whether you believe in it first.

Consistency is key…

When I started my Instagram page, I was working full time and had to post at 7am every morning or I wouldn’t be able to post till the evening. The consistency of posting at a regular time every morning though not only helped grow my following, it also made me more appealing to the audience I wanted to target. No one is going to take the take to follow someone who only posts sporadically.

Take time to reflect, evaluate and make a plan of action…

Like anything in life, it’s important to not just plod along if you want to progress. I think of my social media posts as an important part of my business. If you’re just starting a page, I would consider asking yourself a few key questions; What post had the most engagement? Could you use better hashtags? Have you responded to comments from your followers? Have you asked them what they want you to post about?

I hope some of my top tips really help you! Always remember that good things take time, patience is key.
